NFL Football - Panthers vs. Bucs - game of elimination
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Now at first glance, the Carolina Panthers vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers does not appear to be worthy of mention. After all, both teams are 0 and 2. Shouldn’t we be discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Cincinnati Bengals? You know, Big Ben’s missing appendix or all the injuries plaguing the Bengals?
First glance does not always tell the story. Brian Costas happened to mention that only 3 teams have come back from 0 and 3 records to make the playoffs. He also said Tampa Bay would have no chance to do that. (Squibster agrees). Meanwhile, Carolina, if they get Steve Smith back, may have a chance. (Squib is not sure, never was a believer of all the Panther Super Bowl predictions).
This game may actually leave one of the teams out of the picture for the playoffs.
The big news for this game is… that Steve Smith may play. He will be a game time decision. It all depends on how well the hammy holds up. Now how effective he would be is another story.
Even more interesting is the fact that Chris Simms is struggling so bad that the President of the United States, old George junior himself, had to be called in for advice. What was the advice? Never give up.
Smith or no Smith, this game is going to come down to the play of Chris Simms. He has to generate some offense and especially some downfield offense. Keep in mind that Tampa played Baltimore and Atlanta, two pretty good teams to open the season. So not generating offense against those two should not mean he can not get it done at all.
