NFL Football - Wallace caught in the Bay
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Tampa Bay Quarterback Chris Simms was hurt so bad in the loss to Carolina that he had to be rushed to the hospital and have his spleen removed. Some fans are going to blame Big Al Wallace of the Carolina Panthers, but the evidence says otherwise.
The NFL is a tough game played by hard minded players. Muhsin Muhammad, Chicago Bears receiver and former MSU Spartan great, once remarked that it was an eye opener for him to realize that in the NFL, they don’t just want to tackle you, they want to make you feel it, so that next time you might be a little gun shy. Yes, pain is a weapon in the NFL. Big surprise.
Several players noticed Simms having a hard time breathing and grabbing at his ribs in the 1st quarter. Wallace’s hit took place in the 4th quarter. He was fined 7,500 dollars.
“I was kind of physically sick,” Wallace said. “I think anybody that knows my personality, none of us want to go out there and do any damage to anybody. A lot of guys believe it not, are a lot different off the field and I’d like to believe that I’m a compassionate guy. I don’t want to jeopardize anybody’s health that way.”
Simms, was taken out of intensive care on Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery. Gruden did not rule out Simms returning to play this season. source
Is Wallace at fault or is Tampa Bay covering up the fact that they knew Chris Simms was hurt and yet they let him play the entire game?
NFL Football Fan Question Don’t blame Wallace. Is Coach Jon Gruden, of Tampa Bay, covering up for his medical staff? It feels like one of those ‘He doth protest too much’ things. Gruden carried on, maybe piled on, about how bad a hit it was and how it should be fined.
