ESPN has a story by John Clayton on Marvin Lewis the coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. The story line is that in spite of making the playoffs there has been a number of off-field issues with recent draft picks.

It seems the Bengals fell prey to the same syndrome that a number of bad teams in any sport try to do. They will take the risk of getting a player with questionable character if he has tons of talent. The good teams seem to be able to get the players that have both great talent and good character. The bad teams often do not have the patience to pull that off.

Let’s be careful here….. Do not condemn Cincinnati. Many times strong internal leadership from one or two players can control the character issues. In the Bengals case, it has not worked out that way.

Special Note Marvin Lewis was strongly recruited to Coach at Michigan State University by Athletic Director Ron Mason. He considered it and almost took it, but he wanted to coach in the NFL.

Fox Sports has started their breakdown of the divisions beginning with the NFC East. They don’t make predictions, but breakdown the four teams. This Division is tough to pick anyway with the Dallas Terrell Owens Cowboys, the New York Eli’s, err, Giants, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Washington Redskins. Wow!

Fan Question Who does win this division? Did Dallas also fall prey to the bad character issue with TO?
