NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Off the market like an XBOX 360

by Jesse on March 13th, 2006

When I first heard some of the big names heading into the open market in free agency, names like Edgerrin James, Jamal Lewis, and Antwaan Randel El, I somehow thought it would take them a while to get signed. After all, only stupid teams rush to sign a player to a massive contract without thinking about it first, right? Maybe not.

Jamal Lewis was quickly resigned by the Ravens, Randel El went to the Redskins almost immediately, and then Edgerrin James went to the Cardinals.

As a person who used to blog about the Cardinals (and no, the person there now is not me), I know a bit about them. One of the things I grew to be painfully aware of was their complete and utter lack of skill on the offensive line. They have no talent at all. I mean none.

J.J. Arrington really isn’t a very bad player. In fact, he has a huge upside. He didn’t do horribly last year because he was bad, he did horribly because he never had a chance. Which is why I expect James to get no more than 1100 yards rushing this year.

Max.

All in all it was a great move as far as money and contracts go, but a poor one as far as career planning. To think he could have had a team going somewhere, and not a team that’s been getting worse every single year since they started (almost)
