Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson may get more than timeouts
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

The NFL is putting on a stern face.
They are talking real penalties for getting in trouble.
Right now if you get in any legal trouble they send you to your room for a timeout. Believe me, as a parent, the timeout is easy for a parent to apply, but seldom effective.
Just yesterday, my son broke a glass in the sink, then tried to hide it by throwing it in the lawn. He got caught and sentenced to a timeout. At the end of the timeout, he was seen attempting to do a headstand on his bed.
Obviously he was not remorseful.
It was also a pretty good headstand, so Dad was caught saying “awesome, dude!”, instead of lecturing on the criminal offense.
The NFL is trying to put together a stronger punishment.
The new discipline is likely to be harsher, with longer suspensions than the current two or four games, and punishment handed down more quickly. In the past, the league most often has waited until the legal process has been exhausted before suspending players for violations of the law. Now, with the concurrence of the NFL Players Association and many players, it may not. source
This new set of discipline rules may be referred to as the ‘Bengal rules’.
The team in the spotlight the most has been the Cincinnati Bengals, who during the last year had nine players arrested on a variety of charges ranging from boating while drunk to spousal abuse and weapons violations.
Not to be outdone, Adam “Pacman” Jones, Tennessee Titans, is leading the arrest parade.
As of March 2007, Jones has been arrested ten times since he was drafted by the Titans in 2005. Many NFL commentators are quick to point out that Jones has more arrests than interceptions since being in the NFL. source
In Pacman’s latest and most entertaining arrest, he completely outdid himself.
The visit ended with three people shot by a person that the co-owner of the club said was with Jones. One of the three victims was left paralyzed, according to the Journal-Review.
According to the report, the incident was precipitated by Jones going on stage at the strip club and tossing hundreds of $1 bills in the air.
As strippers rushed to collect the money, Jones allegedly became angry, grabbed one of them by the hair and drove her head into the stage. A fight ensued, and as Jones and his entourage began to leave, a person in the entourage reportedly began shooting.
Jones’ attorney denied that Jones knew the shooter, but a co-owner of the club said Jones came and left with the shooter.
“He denied any knowledge of the shooter, but he was sitting right next to him,” club co-owner Robert Susnar told the Review-Journal. “Those guys came in together and left together.” source
Feeling threatened by the Pacman Jones problems, Tank Johnson, Chicago Bears, mixed the big three of death, drugs, and guns.
In December of last year, Gurnee police raided Johnson’s house and said they found six guns, bullets and two ounces of marijuana.
Johnson’s lawyers pointed out that the marijuana belonged to Johnson’s friend and bodyguard Willie Posey, who was slain in a downtown nightclub days later.Near North District Officer Thomas Goggin testified about a February 2006 traffic incident on Rush Street in which Johnson became “enraged” and threatened officers. Charges against Johnson were later dropped. source
Yes, the NFL tried slaps on the wrist and timeouts and now the new commissioner is finally getting serious. The almighty advertising dollar is at stake. That dollar requires a somewhat clean, palatable to the family, type sport.
NFL Football Fan Question Are you if favor of stiffer penalties?

You’re right about timeout not working w/ the kids. I find that starving our pit bull Sophie for a couple days and then going at them w/ her on a leash tends to get the point across a lot better. Combine some terror w/ timeout and they learn to fly right…although, Timmy has been mutilating more neighborhood cats than usual these past few weeks…
