NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Part II The Rex Files - The competitor, the athlete, the winner

by James on February 3rd, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Rex says - Even with one eye it is an easy pass

Rex Grossman (AP Photo/Charlie Neibergall)It turns out that there may be more to Rex Grossman than we think. Maybe it is time for Bears fans to take a step back and realize what a great competitor they have playing quarterback.

Make sure you read Part I The Rex Files - Rex Grossman played for the Colts? His family goes to Colt games? It talks about Rex’s bloodlines and childhood that shaped him.

Rex will beat you!

But there is more to Rex… than funny kid stories and great bloodlines. Rex, first and foremost, has always been a competitor. Even Bobby Knight, who had Rex in his summer camps remarked on what a great competitor Rex was.

Grandpa Rex was a fierce competitor and disciplinarian. Middle Rex took right after Grandpa and raised Little Rex to be the best. He was made to work hard and earn his own money, even though the family was rich.

Early morning at 5:30 you might have found Rex on a 5 mile run and, late in the day, throwing the football to improve accuracy. It did not stop there, with his dad, Dr. Dan, coaching his football team as a child. Rex was driven by his father to be a great athlete and football player.

Rex responded.

One childhood friend described Rex as perpetually walking a tight rope between confidence and humility, which may be what has made him such a popular teammate and respected leader. Back then everybody wanted to be on his team because it almost always meant they were going to win. source

Let’s see, Rex, that is Little Rex, was Indiana Mr. Football, Parade All-American, went to the University of Florida.

At UF, Rex won 2001 National Player of the Year, finished second in the Heisman voting, and left college his junior to be first pick of the Chicago Bears.

After 3 injury riddled seasons, Rex has taken the Bears to the Super Bowl.

Bears fans need to lighten up

He has modeled himself after childhood hero Brett Favre and likes to be considered a Gun Slinger! This often draws criticism from the so called experts and from loyal Bears fans.

Yeah, it does not seem to matter to Bears fans what ever Rex does, they remain critical.

It makes it even worse to be playing the Colts with Peyton Manning. Rex is not Peyton Manning, but then, unless you bring back Dan Marino, no one is Peyton Manning.

What is Rex, then if not Peyton Manning?

Rex is a competitor. He wins. It is that simple, He Wins! He is 18 - 5 with the Bears. Any team in any league would be more than happy with that. It isn’t always pretty, but it is winning.

Bears fans need to get over it and begin to appreciate the tough competitor they have in Rex Grossman.

Yeah, there is more to Rex than we thought. Rex Grossman is a winner!

It is time for Bears fans to be proud of what they have!

With the salary cap it you can’t have it all. Is it better to spend a big slice of the pie on a qb and have little to spend on the rest of the team or have a qb earning a more reasonable amount and have money left over to spread out amoung the rest of the team? I will take a team with a great defense over a team with a great qb. Bears win.

So you wanted the Ravens, Bronco’s, Chargers, or Vikings?
And that Brady guy has sure ruined the Patriots. And that Brees guy did nothing for the Saints.
    Just messin with ya.

Point taken, defense is important, but so is qb play. Maybe that is why the Chargers looked so good on paper. They had both, but did not get good team play in general.
