Patriots Schmatriots
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Hey, Tom. Yeah, Randy? You think Sci-Fi Channel will show the game, too?
Ok, Ok, you got me. You got me red handed. Your intrepid author picked the Patriots to win it all way back before the season started.
That does not mean they have to win all their games.
That does not mean one has to like his own predictions. If this was a prediction that the world was going to end, one would not have to like it, unless they were a Detroit Lions fan and their running back just got injured and… Well, let’s not bring up that whole mess.
And wait until you get to the bottom of this article and read the clincher!
The Patriots were supposed to win with class. Yeah, class. You have heard of it, where the team acts humble and the coach says all the right things about his opponents.
No, we have the coach cheating thing still coming up and the 4th down and we are up by 3 touchdowns so skip the field goal and go for another touchdown thing. It is like they nipped the CL off of the word class.
Now we hear they are negotiating with the Cartoon Network to show the 16th game, because they are the last media outlet not showing the game. Although, HGTV may have another exciting gut my house show that would pre-empt the game.
“We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement after the league announced it was reversing course. “What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever.” source
Read between the lines. What they are saying is, “Wow, we are going to make a ton of dough on this game!”
This leads to another thorn in your gallivanting author’s side. Just after switching to Dish network, the stinking cable companies are going to carry this game on cable, even though it is a NFL Network broadcast. The cable companies have been steadfast in their resolve not to charge customers extra to have the NFL Network.
Warning to those of you thinking of switching to Dish or DirectTV, your number of receivers is limited, so your ability to DVR is limited. My package came with two receivers good for 4 TVs. That is 2 TVs on one DVR and the other 2 TVs on the other DVR. Yeah, they share them. It stinks as bad as the Patriots going undefeated.
Cable has each box as a world in its own and you can get as many boxes as you want. What they don’t have is the NFL Network, because they don’t want to raise your cable bill a couple of bucks a month, because then it would go over a million bucks a month.
Geez, your usually stable author is dripping with sweat and agonizing over every picky thing here.
It just gets worse. The Giants have absolutely zippo to gain from winning this game, besides bragging rights.
New England does not get to play this one at home, but could benefit from the fact New York (10-5) is locked into the No. 5 seed in the NFC and might want to rest some starters because it does not have a first-round bye. The Giants will visit Tampa Bay in a wild-card game next weekend.
“We want to win every game, and we want our players to be as sharp as they can, but that having been said, I am aware of the fact that all the things you talk about are true,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Monday. “We cannot improve our lot, etc. I won’t be really painted into the corner on any of those things. I wish I had a more definitive answer.” source
The New York Giants will be pulling guys out of the stands to play against the Patriots as they try to go undefeated? You won’t see much of Eli Manning, if anything. This just aint right.
Anyway, got to pick up the refreshments to tune in the big game. Hey, you don’t think your intrepid author would miss this do you?
