Peyton Manning enters the great world of SNL
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Peyton wants you to drink up the jokes on SNL March 24
Ok, is anyone doing as many sports commercials these days as Peyton Manning?
Is any athlete more popular right now as Peyton Manning?
Is it possible to not like this guy? Even if he is beating the living daylights out of your favorite team?
Peyton Manning is on top of the world.
Strange isn’t it. It was not too long ago that we talked about how he could not win the big one. Then he won the big one and now we can’t stop talking about him.
Peyton has been very selective in his off season on what he does and does not do.
Fortunately for all of us, Peyton has decided to appear on Saturday Night Live.
A sketch being considered uses an NCAA basketball pool to make fun of the quarterback’s reputation — before winning the Super Bowl — for losing big games. There almost certainly will be parodies of Manning’s many television commercials.
In those real-life commercials, Manning has shown a willingness to be self-effacing, even goofy.
“The first thing I told (the SNL staff) is, I’m wide open to making a fool out of myself,” Manning said. source
This could be really funny, because Saturday Night Live is, well, live. You know, the camera’s are rolling and you are seeing the first take kind of live.
Keep in mind, his commercials represent multiple takes, until everything is the way the director wants it.
Peyton has had no problems acting like a goofball or a great sports idol in his commercials. His latest Gatorade commercial with Kevin Garnett is just fun to watch.
You may not get the smoothness that a commercial can bring, but SNL is famous for getting non-actors to do some pretty funny stuff and Peyton is willing.
It is that live part that can get to you.
The Colts quarterback said he would appear on the show on March 24, which happens to be his 31st birthday.
“I figure this is my one shot to be asked,” Manning said. “I’m sort of looking forward to it, but I am a little bit nervous.” source
It is hard to believe the SNL is a year older than Peyton and still performing at an all star level, but we all can be glad that it is. After all, what is more fun than watching people that make you laugh?
And what is more fun than having one of your sports heroes do something crazy and make you laugh in your own living room?
SNL reminds us that it can be a great world!

Rats! I missed it this weekend. Hmmm… will have to try and catch this one in repeat season.
Hey… that’s not a bad idea. Why doesn’t the NFL run repeats? Great games and performances of the previous season, play-offs. Top it off with a re-airing of the Super Bowl just before the new season launches.

my bad, did not find out until just before it came on. It was pretty funny.
one sketch will catch some trouble. He did a kind of United Way thing with kids and ends up getting serious and throwing the football and hitting them with it in the back and yelling at them. It was too funny, which means someone will have a problem with it.
