Randy Moss is 30, Tom Brady is 30 , will they be champions?
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Raiders? No Way. It was all their fault. Hey, your looking at the greatest player ever!
Going into the off season the Patriots were loaded to the gills. After blowing a huge early lead to the Colts in the playoffs, the New England Patriots have developed that killer instinct again. They want to win it all.
The off season comes and New England begins to fill the few holes they had on their team.
Adalius Thomas was added to a pretty good, but getting older linebacking crew.
Donte Stallworth, ever the deep threat, was added to an anemic receiving crew. Wes Welker was also added to that crew, and also, to be a return man. Throw in the additions of Kyle Brady and Kelley Washington and you have all the makings of an excellent receiving corps.
Another, not so subtle move, was the decision to waive Corey Dillon. The Patriots feel that Lawrence Maroney has arrived and is only being hindered in the two back system that so many teams employed last year.
The Patriots also added a safety in the draft in Brandon Meriweather with the all time record for tackles by safetys at the U of Miami. This is where Ed Reed and Sean Taylor prepped, so that is a pretty impressive record.
To any other team this would be enough and fans would be overjoyed and buying tickets by the bushel, but for New England all of that is just the frosting on the cake.
The real cake is the combination of Tom Brady and Randy Moss. The feeling in New England is that Tom and Randy will deliver the Super Bowl.
Oddly, even with that anemic receiving corps, we expected Tom Brady to be All Pro, even though the competition was stiff.
Brady totaled 3,529 passing yards last season with twice as many touchdowns (24) as interceptions (12) — solid numbers considering he threw to 15 teammates, including eight wideouts. Brady missed being selected to a third consecutive Pro Bowl though. The AFC was represented by Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning, the Cincinnati Bengals’ Carson Palmer and the San Diego Chargers’ Philip Rivers. source
Still everything hinges on whether Randy Moss can recapture the form that made him one of the most feared wideouts in the league.
Moss, 30, did “all of the above” and more when he broke into the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings in 1998. A combination of size (6-4, 210), blazing speed, and extraordinary leaping ability allowed him to amass 8,375 yards with 77 touchdowns in reaching the Pro Bowl in five of his first six seasons.
His fortunes began to decline after that, though. He showed only occasional flashes of his former brilliance in 2006, the last of his two years with Oakland. He finished with career lows in catches (42) and receiving yards (553). source
