Roy Williams of the Detroit Lions is thinking 9 in a row
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Roy catches Lion fever
Yep, he said it. He said 9 in a row. No, not a prediction and he didn’t claim to foresee the future. It was more of a plea to the team to really get it in gear. The Lions are 1 - 6 and have a bye week to rest up and get healed. Roy Williams is through thinking one game at a time.
“I know how they say one game at a time, but we’ve got to go nine games in a row,” Williams said. “We can put nine wins together. We can do that. We need everybody to come out and just dominate their position. Once everybody does that, we can be one of the hottest teams in this league.” source
This is the crazy part of the NFL, a team that has … banded together and won’t give up in spite of overwhelming evidence that they are not very good. It is staring them in the face with loss after loss. It is staring them in the face with lack of talent. It is staring them in the face with injury after injury, but they just won’t look. They prefer to listen to their leaders.
Who are those leaders? Well, let’s start with rookie coach Rod Marinelli. This guy is a breath of fresh air. He makes the Lions players believe and he makes them accountable. There are no excuses. Just ask Charles goodbye Rogers or Mike on the pine Williams.
Marinelli accepts no excuses. You are on the roster, so you have a job to do. When asked about the 200 plus yards on the ground by the Jets and if the missing All Pro All Banquet Table Shaun “Big Baby” Dexatrim Rodgers had anything to do with that. Marinelli replied “None”.
For more leaders, look at Jon Kitna and Roy Williams. Jon says everything he has ever done has meant for him to be right where he is now. He believes.
As for Roy,
“It’s a special team, man,” wide receiver Roy Williams said. “You can feel it in the air. It just hasn’t went our way yet. Sooner or later, it’s got to come our way. We’re too good a football team, too good of players, too good of friends off the field, too good of everything, too good of coaches, to be 1-6.” source
Dominic believes
And what about this from Center Dominic Raiola
“It’s coming.”
Huh? It’s coming? Is he talking about a winning Lions team or the apocalypse? And what would be the difference?
“I haven’t seen the signs until this year,” he said. “It’s coming. It’s so easy to say right now, you know what I mean? It’s so easy to say … source
NFL Football Dominic Raiola factoid Dominic was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.
It is like watching one of those schmaltzy sports movies where the downtrodden heroes suddenly decide they can do it, so they call a time out, think up a trick play and go out and win the big game. Roy has called the time out. Hopefully Marinelli has the trick play.
NFL Football Fan Question Short on talent, long on accountability, how many games will the Lions win this year?
Last chance to vote in the poll to the left. Squibster took Indy by 7.
