Seattle Seahawks - Shaun Alexander has cracked bone in foot
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Shaun Alexander is the reigning MVP. A tremendous runner with out of this world stats. Unfortunately, he will miss the big game against the Chicago Bears.
This game stood to be a classic battle between last years highest scoring team, the Seahawks, and last years best defensive team, the Bears. Shaun gives Seattle the power at running back to complement the excellent passing attack. Now he is out with a cracked bone in his foot. He initially bruised it against the Detroit Lions.
Now before you start crying for Seattle, a town that gets enough moisture already, keep in mind… they are unbeaten and sport an offense with four legitimate receivers and a classic passing quarterback in Matt Hassleback.
OK, ok, the backup to Shaun is not quite as explosive, but there is more to Seattle than Shaun. The backup is Maurice Morris and he is almost the antithesis to Shaun. He is speedy, looks to go outside, and has great hands for receiving. In essence, he is a very good complement to Alexander. Shaun is more of a straight ahead power runner, knowing just when to make his cut.
So don’t cry for Seattle, not that us football fans ever cry (ok, yours truly shed a few after MSU lost to Notre Dame on national TV with a total collapse), its just that you have to keep in mind all the weapons that Seattle has at their disposal. Have you forgotten already the signing of Deion Branch? Have you forgotten how good Matt Hassleback has gotten at running a game plan, throwing with touch, and leading his team? He is an 8th year veteran and knows what he is doing.
No, we won’t cry, because in a few weeks or so Shaun will be back and Seattle will have learned a little bit more about themselves. Meanwhile, they just put a butt whuppin on the New York Giants at one point leading 42 to 3. The game was so one sided that when it was over, Jeremy Shockey ripped his own coaches for being out coached.
Oh, almost forgot, if Shaun is on your Fantasy Football team, then cry. Cry until it hurts and then cry some more. (Squibster full disclosure - Shaun is not on my Fantasy Team)
