Shaun Rogers, Big Baby - Oh boy is Coach Marinelli challenged on this one

Big Baby is in trouble.
No, not the trouble with Marinelli, we will get to that.
Big Baby has been allegedly groping a stripper, but that is not all there is to the story.
We need to back up a little to get some context here.
Your intrepid author grew up a Lions fan. A cruel fate to be sure, but my fate none the less.
Now as a Lions fan, there is little to cheer about from year to year, and if not for having Billy Sims followed by Barry Sanders, then thousands of Lions fans may have just committed suicide in order to improve their lives.
Then the patron saint of Lions darkness arrives cloaked in the disguise of Matt Millen. Ok, maybe a little harsh there, because he really is a good guy and wants to do well. Problem is, Matt has not done well.
Like a White Knight, Coach Rod Marinelli shows up spouting character this and character that. In other words, get rid of the characters and keep the players with character, the players that love football, the players that will run through brick walls just to stay on the field.
Now we turn to exhibit A, well maybe Shaun “Big Baby” Rogers is so big that he should be called exhibit A, B, and C. Anyway, Shaun is oozing with talent and quite a bit of fat, too. Big Baby has a tendency to take some plays off when not demonstrating the form that landed him on the All Pro team a few years ago.
Now Big Baby is caught groping a stripper.
Detroit Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers is being investigated for sexual assault after a stripper accused him of entering a dressing room and forcibly groping her last week, authorities confirmed Monday. source
Why is this so bad? Well, Coach Marinelli just spent the last week discussing how Shaun will be the cornerstone of the defense, the leader of those 11 warriors.
Ouch.
What does a coach do that preaches character, first, second, and last? Can the Lions afford to release the most talented player on the Defense?
One thing we know for sure. Marinelli is going to take a lot of heat on this issue. What Coach Marinelli does with Rogers may shape the career of Coach Marinelli, GM Matt Millen, and Big Baby himself.
Can a coach that preaches character release a player of Rogers’ talent? Can Rod Marinelli keep that same player, because there is such a strong need to win to save his job and the defense has so little else?
Any way you look at it, Big Baby has handed Coach Marinelli a huge challenge.
Let us hope Marinelli is up to the task!

James, I think Marinelli will let the legal proceedings play out and stand behind Rogers until he is found guilty of the sexual assualt. If he is guilty then he will have to deal with a suspension from Goodell, probably. Then Marinelli will have to address the situation. He seems to be a man of high principles and I trust him to do what is right.

Trade him asap. No one player is more important than the team.
Marinelli has postured himself as intolerant of this sort of thing, so if he doesn’t follow through his word will mean nothing to the rest of the team.
