Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, dies in accident, NFL Football Fans Mourn
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Sometimes there are events in the world that transcend NFL Football. The passing of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter is one of them. He will truly be missed. Steve died while filming a documentary off of the Great Barrier Reef. He was stung in the chest by a stingray.
As a football fan, you have to respect a man that wrestled crocodiles or “Croc’s” as Steve called them. There is just a certain manly element to wrestling a crocodile to the ground.
Steve Irwin did not wrestle crocodiles as a sport. His passion was to find crocodiles that needed a new habitat and move them safely to their new home. His team, which included his wife, Terri, and child, Bindi, would wrestle the crocodile until they could rope it up. Then they would transport it to a safe location and release the crocodile into its new environment. The crocodile would be unharmed! Well, except maybe for his ego.
It would be like wrestling Terrell Owens to the ground and tying him up and transporting him to a new NFL team when it is no longer safe for him to live with the Dallas Cowboys.
Steve Irwin reminded us of our special connection to Mother Earth and all her creatures. Who can forget him holding a poisonous snake and saying “What a beauty!” or something to that affect.
Often in my house, you could here Steve saying “Crikey” as my wife watched his show called “The Crocodile Hunter” on the Animal Planet or while my kids were playing a Wiggles video over and over where they visit Steve Irwin at the Australian Zoo.
So, sometime this Sunday between refilling the bowl of chips and getting another beverage, spend a moment of silence for one of the true giants of the world. A man with passion and purpose. A man that wrestled crocodiles to preserve them. A man that entertained us, just like NFL Football entertains us. Let’s all mourn the loss of Steve Irwin.

Plenty of people have jobs of high risk. Steve brought high enthusiasm. A friend of a friend actually worked with him and says what you see on TV is what you see in real life. He was excited about everything life had to offer. More of us could use that, for sure!
