NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Steve Smith of Carolina is too much for the Bucs

by James on November 14th, 2006

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Steve Smith pushes the Bucs aside

Steve SmithIf there is one receiver that you do not want to face in a big game, it is Steve Smith, as he proved to be too elusive for the Tampa Bay defense.

Carolina beat the Bucs 24 - 10 in a game that was less and less in doubt as the night wore on.

The Panthers were trying to erase a pattern that has developed this year. In 7 games they have went into the second half with leads and blown 3 of those games. In those 7 games they were outscored 104 to 42 in the second half.

Tampa Bay struck first with a touchdown pass to Ike Hilliard. Earlier Gradkowski had missed a long pass to Joey Galloway for what would have been a touchdown.

Grad got a little cocky and ended up throwing an interception in the end zone and another one close to the 5 yard line, following a Ronde Barber interception.

But the night belonged to Steve Smith. He had 8 receptions for 149 yards. It was the 13th 100+ yard game for Smith since the beginning of the 05 season, leading the NFL.

In the post game interview, when asked about feeling sick with the flu in the second half, Steve had this to say:

“My little girl was sick,” Smith said, “and so, and she’s a daddy’s girl, kissing on me and so — I got the flu. What happens in the house just goes around the parents.” source

Julius Peppers had 3 sacks and a fumble recovery in this game.

Shout Outs A big Shout Out to RonB, Lion Fan, Spartan Fan, and best friend. A true Klingon warrior.

Carolina still has work to do in order to improve. Their running game only netted 80 yards, not nearly enough to start talking playoff team.

NFL Football Fan Question Carolina is back in contention in the NFC South, tied with the Falcons and one game down to the Saints. Do the Panthers have the second half letdown jinx beat? Can they win the division?

As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.
