Super Bowl Sleepers
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Everyone is picking the New England Patriots or the Indianapolis Colts to win the Super Bowl. However, football is a wacky game and upsets take place every week. Looking for a dark horse candidate to come out of nowhere and win the Super Bowl?
Check out these five teams:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs aren’t much of a dark horse considering they are currently first in the NFC South. However, most league pundits left this team for dead after the Cadillac Williams injury. But with veterans like Jeff Garcia and Joey Galloway leading the way, this squad can outsmart opponents.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Trailing the Colts by one game in the AFC South, the Jaguars have had an up-and-down season. One week they look great, the next week they look horrible. That said, David Garrard is returning this week from injury and he hasn’t thrown an interception this season. Add in a powerful running game and a playmaking defense and this team can beat anyone.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans don’t have a lot of skilled players. Luckily for them, Jeff Fisher is a great coach and Vince Young knows how to win. With Fisher and Young on your side, your team always has a chance. Young is struggling right now but he’s not a player to bet against.
Arizona Cardinals
Remember Kurt Warner from the Super Bowl champion Rams? Well, he’s back under center and looking pretty good. If he can reclaim some of his long lost magic, he might have one more miracle in his arm. Besides Warner, the Cardinals have an improved running game and a surprisingly good defense.
Cleveland Browns
Speaking of Warner, the quarterback who has come out of nowhere to shine this year is Derek Anderson of the Browns. While Cleveland’s defense is horrible, their offense is powerful. Anderson has a number of weapons at his disposal that he isn’t afraid to use such as Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow, Jr. and Jamal Lewis.
With all that said, if you hold a gun to my head, I’m still picking the Patriots to win it all.
