NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

The “Cover 2″ Defense

I mentioned late last week that beginning this week, Jesse and I would be tackling football strategies, formations etc. We’ll, of course, scatter other topics into the mix so as not to bore you all the time. But we thought it would be fun to do some in depth football analysis for awhile.
This […]

Ranking the top quarterback prospects

While I’m still standing by my decision not to do a mock draft, I couldn’t resist but do a ranking of the top three projected quarterbacks in this year’s draft. No one really knows the order they’ll go in, and that’s what’s going to determine a lot about how things end up playing out.

What will the Lions look like this year?

An interesting story ran on FOX Sports earlier. The writer went into a bit of detail describing the difference that Mike Martz is starting to make with the Lions.
His style of coaching, his attention to detail, and his knowledge of the game are amazing, and he’s passing all that along to the players. After […]

Patriots guarantee that for a few years they will have a good player on their defensive line and a good quarterback

I couldn’t help but laugh a bit earlier when I read an article discussing the Patriots locking up Willie McGinest for a few more years.
I can’t remember the exact wording, but it was something to the effect of “Patriots secure elitism until 2010 with resigning of McGinest”.
For starters, the longer a contract is, […]

Steelers working to extend Cowher

The Steelers have had a surprisingly quiet role in free agency this year. In fact, off the top of my head I can’t think of a single person they’ve signed. I’m not sure they even have signed anyone, though I’m sure they have.
That doesn’t, however, rule out the fact that they might have done […]

Harrington is a lion no longer

It is now being widely reported that Joey Harrington has earned himself a one-way ticket out of Detroit.
You can hardly say this comes as a surprise, as they have just finished bringing in a completely new system with a new coaching staff and everything.
The fact that Mike Martz thinks he’s hopeless (otherwise he […]

Terrel Owens winds up in Dallas

A bit of an update on a previous post I wrote. Terrel Owens has signed a three year contract with the Cowboys.
As deadspin.com put it, the Cowboys finally found a suitable replacement to take the hole left by Michael Irvin.

Countdown to the Draft: The New England Patriots, (10-6)

The big question going into the offseason is where the Patriots are.
Are they rebuilding, or are they crumbling, or are they always getting better? I tend to subscribe to the second option.
They’ve lost Willie McGinest, Ty Law, David Patten, and Adam Vinatieri, and replaced them with horrible players like Randal Gay. They have […]

Money down the manhole

I leave the house for an hour and what do I find when I come back?
this (thanks, Aaron)
The news that the Ravens kept Lewis came only a few hours after Aaron sent me the article about the Ravens signing Mike Anderson.
Oh, and if you’re wondering about Chester Taylor, he was set free […]

Countdown to the Draft: The Carolina Panthers, NFC South (11-5)

The Panthers doing well this year was really quite predictable. They went to the Super Bowl and lost two years ago. Last year they were actually quite a good team, but injuries killed them, though they still managed to go on a hot streak at the end, only missing the playoffs on a blocked 50+ […]
