NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Trent Green - beats out Cleopatra, Chet Lemon, and Cleo Lemon

by James on August 22nd, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Trent Green kind of has that Brett Favre look going on

Trent GreenTrent Green was named the starter at Miami. This is really good news, because your intrepid author drafted Green for my backup quarterback on my Fantasy Football team, the Spartans.

Trent had to beat out…umm.. it was..Yellow, no, Cleopatra, no, she was a Queen of the Nile, oh, oh, Chet Lemon. Wait a minute; Chet Lemon was an outfielder for the White Sox and Tigers that made a living off of getting hit by the pitch and sliding into first base on close calls.

Cleo Lemon! That’s it; Trent beat out Cleo Lemon from the College of Whatever.

True story though, Trent is 37 and it was not a sure thing to beat out Cleo, even though Joey The Curse Harrington beat him out last year.

“We’re at a point where we need to start putting this offense together and the number one thing our offense needs is leadership,” Cameron said. “Trent brings that, but I do believe Cleo’s time is coming and he’s got a lot of room for growth.” source

Room for growth? Sounds like they are fattening up Cleo. Cleo is done anyway, because the future is John Beck.

Lemon will be the backup and rookie John Beck — Miami’s second-round draft pick — will likely be the third quarterback. Lemon acknowledged some disappointment in the decision, but also will become a backup for the first time. He spent most of last year as Miami’s third quarterback behind Daunte Culpepper and Joey Harrington, both of whom are no longer with the Dolphins.

Leadership by Trent Green is easy when the other players refer to you as Grandpa.

This brings to question why your gallivanting author drafted Trent Green. Well, my starting quarterback is Peyton Manning and Trent happened to play during his bye week. Green has had a great career, though.

Green threw for 21,459 yards and 118 touchdowns in 5 1/2 seasons as the starter in Kansas City, but missed eight games last season because of a concussion suffered in the season opener — and wanted a trade because he felt the Chiefs wouldn’t give him a chance to vie against Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle for the job.

“I just wanted what I felt was more of a fair opportunity to play,” said Green, who threw for more than 4,000 yards three times during his stint with the Chiefs.

This brings up another question. Namely how did the Squibster get Peyton? Well, in a fit of brilliance or sheer stupidity, Peyton was available with the 5th pick and after suffering with Carson Palmer last year, in an off year, it just seemed too appealing.

Some of the other teams openly questioned my wisdom. Time will tell. Shaun Alexander was available, but coming off of a major injury, he seemed like a high risk.

As luck would have it, Reggie Bush was available in the second round, so at least one of my backs will be decent.

Oops, kind of strayed off the subject, but Trent is kind of high risk himself, coming off the severe concussion last year and then sucking in the playoffs.

So Trent Green, at age 37, will get a chance to start for the Dolphins and hopefully Trent can get the job done. Miami fans have suffered lately and they are not used to that.

NFL Football Fan Question Is Trent too old or does age not matter at the QB position?
