Walter Payton? Jim Brown? Barry? LT? Emmitt? - No, Priest Holmes

by James on April 6th, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Priest Holmes uses his secret floating shoes to elude defenders

Priest Holmes (Sun photo by John Makely)It is a brave new world.

It is the best of times. It is the worst of times.

Maybe it is a tale of two cities, who knows.

Probably it is just a bizarro world.

Let’s make a statement here and then after you get over it, we will back it up.

Priest Holmes had two of the best four seasons as a running back!

Ludicrous. Get your brain examined, if you even have one.

What about Barry Sanders? Jim Brown? LT, just last year? Emmitt Smith? Walter Peyton? Eric Dickerson?

Check this out. The top rushers for yardage in a season.

NFL Football Earl Campbell factoid - Earl had an NFL record setting four 200 yard games in one season with Houston in 1980.

So where is Priest Holmes name on that list?

Does not matter, because we are talking Fantasy Football.

Priest had the number 3 and 4 fantasy seasons.

First, number 3.

Holmes, who was once stuck behind Errict Rhett on the depth chart in Baltimore, exploded onto the scene as a member of the Chiefs and would surpass Faulk as the top overall player in fantasy football. He thrived in the offensive attack of head coach Dick Vermeil with a career-best 1,615 rushing yards, 672 receiving yards and 24 total touchdowns in 2002, all of which totaled 373 points. source

Now, number 4.

Holmes produced one heck of an encore to his 2002 season, as he recorded 2,110 all-purpose yards and what was an NFL-record 27 touchdowns for a total of 373 points. He had 100-plus all-purpose yards 13 times and scored multiple touchdowns in 10 contests, but this would be Holmes’ final full season. Knee and neck injuries limited him to 15 games in 2004-05, and he missed all of 2006.

So there it is, Priest Holmes with 2 of the best 4 seasons of Fantasy Football of all time!
