NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Why Brett Favre will, in fact, retire

by Jesse on April 10th, 2006

The whole NFL world is at the edge of their seats wondering if Brett Favre will retire or not. Not I. To me, there is no question. I can say with 99% certainty that Brett Favre will retire.

Why? I’ll tell you

Brett Favre is not wrestling with trying to decide whether or not to come back. He’s not figuring out which option he likes better.

He already knows he wants to retire. He really doesn’t have any reason to come back. He’s old, he’s tired, he’s had a great career, he’ll be a hall of famer, his family needs him, and his team needs to move on.

The only reason to come back is his competitive spirit. He knows he should retire, and he’s known it for a long time, all he’s doing is trying to convince himself that he doesn’t need to or want to play another year of football. It’s hard. It’s hard for someone that’s been playing as long as him to just give up the game, but you have to eventually, and Favre is just trying to come to grips with that.

So that is why I can tell you the in a few days, maybe this Friday or so, he’ll announce his retirement. And that’s what he should do

I agree that it is time for him to retire. I’m not so sure that he will. If the Packers make a couple of moves to strengthen the team or if he has a chance to play for another contender, I think that he might give it one more go.

I don’t think that he should, but when has logic been associated with professional sports?

I agree with you in theory, but here’s something to consider:

What moves are there for the Packers to make? I’m sure Favre would love to come back if the Packers could really build up their team and make a run for the playoffs, but there’s nobody left in free agency, really
