Why the Ravens might Draft a Nickel Back
The Nickel Back is the special position that constitutes a Linebacker that is brought in for a defensive “nickel” package. A nickel package is a defensive formation that brings in five defensive backs. They are excellent for pass plays which require more men downfield.
The Baltimore Ravens have had the world’s most famous nickelback, Deion Sanders, these past years and while we would like to have Neon Deion back, he’s old and crumbling.
Conventional wisdom says that the Ravens will draft for defense in the first round and Steve Davis likes the idea of drafting a nickel back in the first round.
They need a cornerback to play nickel back, and fill the void left by Deion Sanders. Some people might say why spend a first rounder on a nickel back, but the nickel plays a lot, as much 80% of the plays, so it’s worth it to get a great player.
Of course, he makes arguments for Safety (probably Strong) and defensive linemen as well.

that would be one option. In the draft it’s very common for everyone to want to move down and no one wanting to move up. That might be the case this year, meaning that everyone just stays put…
