Willis McGahee goes to the Ravens
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
They lost Adalius Thomas. Jamal Lewis is gone. The Ravens needed to do something.
Sure, Ozzie Newsome traditionally pulls some keepers out of the draft, but it is always good to have a bird in hand.
The Ravens acquired McGahee in a trade with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, a day after Lewis signed with Cleveland. In exchange, the Bills received third- and seventh-round picks this year and a third-rounder next year. source
Ozzie gave the trade the usual manager speak dress-up!
“This is a runner who can make people miss and has the explosion and speed to take it the distance,” Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said. “He also has the power and size to run inside. He’s a viable receiver out of the backfield and is a good pass blocker, not something every back can do.”
If Willis was this good, then every team would have been willing to give up some picks.
McGahee, who missed his rookie year recuperating from a knee injury, enjoyed his most productive season in 2004, when he had 1,128 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. His worst season was last year when he managed 990 yards rushing, but led the team with six touchdowns rushing in 14 starts.
This leaves the Bills chasing the remaining running back free agents, like Chris Brown and Dominic Rhodes.
Filling Jamal Lewis’s shoes won’t be easy as McGahee will find out, but Willis is a productive running back, as Raven fans will find out.
After all the finding out goes on, you have a Baltimore team still poised to make a run for it all and that has to make Willis McGahee just a little more hungry for a great season!
NFL Football Fan Question Baltimore fills a need and is still in position to win it all. Can they get the job done?

I’m a New England Patriots fan, but this was not a good win over the Ravens on 12/3/07 the Pats were manhandled all nite and Willis McGahee was a one man wrecking crew the man played his heart out, the only way to play this great sport. The game doesn’t tell the real story in the W/L column.
